Raphaël Gaillard is Professor of Psychiatry at the Paris Descartes University and Sainte Anne Hospital, where he is the head of one of the top academic departments of psychiatry in France, a department in which about 12 000 patients are treated each year
He completed his medical degree and a PhD in neuroscience at the Pierre and Marie Curie University, and completed a post-doc at the University of Cambridge (UK). He is also a former student of the École Normale Supérieure de la rue d’Ulm in Paris. His main research interest is in studying the neural bases of consciousness.
He also recently launched with the Pasteur Institute a start-up in the field of regenerative medicine.
He has authored or coauthored more than 50 original articles in international journals, including the Proceedings of The National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) and Molecular Psychiatry. In 2011 he was in charge of a national report for the French Ministry of Education and Research (installed by Valerie Pécresse, French Minister of Education and Research) aiming at rethinking relationships between universities and hospitals.
