Transatlantic Forum: The Humanitarian Crisis in Ukraine

Invite Only

On January 18, 2023, the French-American Foundation was privileged to welcome Dora Chomiak, President and Board Member of Razom for a Transatlantic Forum event at Maman NYC. The conversation was moderated by Megan Carroll (former Political Affairs Officer at the United Nations Office of Counter-terrorism and Young Leader ‘18), and focused on the on-going humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and how Razom continues to mobilize a global network in support of the country and its citizens. Together with her Razom colleague Nonna Khouri, Dora presented an overview of the history of Ukraine and described key events building up to the Russian invasion of the country on February 24, 2022.

Having spent time working on the ground in Ukraine, Dora shared insightful information about the present mindset of Ukrainians as they approach the one-year mark of this devastating invasion. She underlined that Ukrainians remain strong, while also identifying specific resources and aid needed from nations and international organizations, including winter gear, generators, and artillery for the front lines. Transatlantic Forum members asked questions and engaged in conversation with Dora and Megan on topics ranging from how to combat disinformation, to the meaning of sovereignty and the role of international borders. In closing, Dora underscored the importance of maintaining open dialogue and continued awareness of the situation in Ukraine.

The Transatlantic Forum assembles professionals of all backgrounds on a monthly basis to advance crucial dialogue between France and the United States. If you are interested in learning more about the program, or applying to become a member, please click here.
