Mara Gay

Mara Gay is a member of the New York Times editorial board, where she focuses on New York politics, and the policies, personalities and stories that shape America’s largest, most dynamic city. Before coming to the Times, Mara was a City Hall reporter for The Wall Street Journal, and before that, the Daily News, writing about Mayors Bill de Blasio and Michael Bloomberg. She began her career at The Atlantic. Mara is a graduate of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, where she wrote a column for The Michigan Daily. She is a native New Yorker who lives in a fifth-floor walk-up, rides the subway and swims at Rockaway Beach.
