Board Luncheon
Following the first board meeting of 2019, the French-American Foundation offered a discussion that focuses on the Yellow Vest Movement, or Les Gilets jaunes, in France. The meeting brought together board members, Young Leaders, Transatlantic Forum members, and friends of the Foundation to examine the history behind the movement and its impacts on the country and the transatlantic relationship. Leading the discussion was Emmanuele Ferragina of Science Po Paris and the University of Oxford and Richard Fontaine of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS).
Emanuele Ferragina: Emanuele Ferragina is Associate Professor of Sociology at Sciences Po Paris, a member of the Observatoire Sociologique du Changement (OSC, CNRS) and the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire d’Evaluation des Politiques Publiques (LIEPP). Prior to Sciences Po, he was a Lecturer at the University of Oxford where he also received his PhD. Emanuele is interested in comparative social policy. Besides academia, he has established the think tank Fonderia Oxford, he is a columnist for the Italian newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano, and he has appeared in several Italian political talk shows on issues related to the welfare state and inequality. He is currently a visiting Alliance scholar at Columbia University.
Richard Fontaine: Richard Fontaine is the President of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS). He served as a Senior Advisor and Senior Fellow at CNAS from 2009-2012 and previously as foreign policy advisor to Senator John McCain for more than five years. He has also worked at the State Department, the National Security Council and on the staff of the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees.
