Facebook & French Regulators to Fight Hate Speech Together

Digital technologies are bringing new challenges to regulators that France and the United States are willing to tackle together. President Macron announced in his introduction speech at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) an unprecedented partnership between Facebook and French regulators. During the experiment, to be held in the first half of 2019, the platform’s experts will work with a group of French regulators to jointly develop specific and concrete proposals to fight hate content.
France hosted the 13th edition of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), a United Nations forum with this year’s theme being “Internet of Trust”. The Internet Governance Forum serves to bring different stakeholders together as equals in discussions on public policy issues relating to the Internet. This year’s IGF was part of France’s Paris Digital Week.
Through its annual Cyber Security Conference, the French-American Foundation examines emerging cyber security challenges in a transatlantic context. This year’s program (September 25 and 26, 2018), titled “Cyber Security and Digital Identity,” discussed the balance between ensuring security in cyberspace and protecting personal information and privacy.
