Simon Frisch

Simon Frisch is a New York-based American-Breton composer. Current and recent projects include O God, my heart is ready for Daniel Hyde and the Men & Boys of Saint Thomas of Fifth Avenue; New York, Latvian, and Portuguese recital premieres of marginalia ii for solo piano; the semi-theatrical The Body Untied for soloists and baroque chamber orchestra at venues around New York City, presented by Amanda+James, BZH NY, Région Bretagne, lightbox, and others, with video artist Rachel Libeskind; and upcoming residences at Wildacres and the Banff Centre.

Other collaborators of note include Orli Shaham and the St. Louis Symphony in prepared-piano projects at the Pulitzer Foundation (later performed at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music), as well as soprano Renée Fleming on a program titled Higher at the Harris Theater of Chicago, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., National Sawdust in New York, and later across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom in recital.

As a cultural advocate, Simon has organized acclaimed (Le Telegramme, Ouest France, Bretagne Actuelle) chamber music concerts in the Ille-et-Vilaine/Côtes-d’Armor regions of Brittany in collaboration with local communities and non-profits since 2014, and is founding composition faculty of the Music Advancement Program at The Juilliard School. He holds MM and BM degrees from Juilliard, where he studied with Robert Beaser and Samuel Adler.
