Lindsey Laveaux
Lindsey Laveaux is Senior Trial Attorney with New York County Defender Services where she has represented hundreds of individuals in criminal and supreme courts of New York County, NY. Previously, as Staff Attorney with CAMBA Legal Services, she represented clients facing eviction in civil court of Kings County, NY. She was a Human Rights Advocacy Fellow with MADRE in New York, NY, drafting memoranda and interacting with UN bodies to advance international human rights law, with a focus on LGBTQIA+ rights and women’s rights in Latin America and the Caribbean. As an Ella Baker Fellow in the Rape Accountability and Prevention Project at the Center for Constitutional Rights, Lindsey led efforts in grassroots advocacy and direct client representation to combat gender-based violence, housing insecurity, and public health concerns in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Her client-centered approach reinforces her focus on providing the best legal representation to underserved populations ill-equipped to navigate the legal system whether in the United States or abroad.
Through volunteering, Lindsey is committed to giving a platform to voices with unique perspectives. She currently co-chairs the Criminal Law Committee of the New York Women’s Bar Association and founded the creation of affinity groups at New York County Defender Services.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Lindsey served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bafang, Cameroon where she taught English to francophone children at a government-funded secondary school. Lindsey’s short story about her experience teaching in Central Africa, “Monday Morning, Cameroon,” is published in The Places We’ve Been: Field Reports from Travelers Under 35.
Lindsey holds a JD from University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, MA in International Studies with a focus in French from the Lauder Institute at The Wharton School and University of Pennsylvania, and BS in Culture and Communication Studies from New York University. In her downtime, Lindsey enjoys watching Bravo TV, collecting gold jewelry, and spending time with family and friends.
