Philippe was educated in Burgundy before joining the French Navy in 1994
After three years in the French Naval Academy, including a training voyage onboard the Helicopter Carrier FS JEANNE D’ARC, he graduated with a Master of Science in Marine Engineering.
His first operational assignment was onboard frigate FS COMMANDANT DUCUING. He joined the Submarine Service in 1998. In 2001, he was promoted to Lieutenant and in August 2001 he took command of landing ship FS DAGUE based in the Indian Ocean in Djibouti. Following the 9/11 attacks, he participated in Operation Enduring Freedom – Horn of Africa (OEF-HOA) and he operated from the Seychelles to Jedda in Saudi Arabia.
In August 2002, Philippe came back to France for a 16-month advanced warfare and nuclear course. In 2006, he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and served as an exchange officer in HM Naval Base Clyde in Faslane (Scotland), on the staff of Flag Officer Sea Training. In 2009 he returned to France and completed a nuclear course in Cherbourg (Normandy) and passed the French Joint Staff Course competitive exam. In June 2011, he passed the French Submarine Command Course and took command of SSN FS AMETHYSTE in August 2011. After two operational patrols, he left his command in May 2013. He is now in charge of the French Submarine Command Course and is also head of the department “Sea and Shore Training” at the French SSN Squadron in Toulon.
During his spare time, he enjoys spearfishing. Philippe is an alumnus of the Concours Général (2nd Prize in Physics – 1992). His decorations include the Légion d’Honneur, the Cross for Military Valor, and the Combatant Cross.
