Executive Director, New York Artists Equity Association // Equity Gallery

Melinda Wang is a non-profit executive, curator, angel investor and attorney.  She is Executive Director of New York Artists Equity Association, Inc., a non-profit organization founded in 1947 to promote opportunities for artists, and Equity Gallery, an art space on the Lower East Side.  She is also an independent curator and Founder and Principal of MW Projects LLC, a cultural production and art advisory firm dedicated to bringing contemporary art to historic sites, non-traditional venues and liminal spaces.  

A strategic advisor to several startups in the fintech, SaaS, consumer internet and private social networking spaces, she is also an active angel investor and part of Pipeline Angels, a women investors network focused on social impact businesses.

Melinda has been practicing corporate law for 14 years. She was previously Senior Vice President at XL Group plc (NYSE: XL), where she was the lead attorney on capital markets, mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance and corporate governance matters.  Prior to XL, she was associated with Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP and Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP in New York and London, where her practice focused on initial public offerings, high yield debt offerings and mergers & acquisitions. 

Melinda graduated from Princeton University in 1999 and received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2002.  She serves on the Board of Governors of the Princeton Association of New York City and is Chair of the Association’s Arts & Culture Committee.  In addition, she is active in the New York City Bar Association’s Committee on Women in the Legal Profession, Silvershed and the Junior Associates of the Museum of Modern Art.
