French-American Dialogue with Alain Minc
Notable French businessman, economic advisor and author Alain Minc joined the French-American Foundation for a private luncheon, entering in conversation with Foundation Board Member Yves-André Istel, Senior Advisor at Rothschild, Inc. The two discussed the French economy, European policy, and the current business climate among a number of pertinent issues facing French society.

Alain Minc, currently President of AM Conseil and SANEF, has had a noteworthy career as as a businessmen, intellect, political adviser and author, making him one of France's most prevalent providers of commentary on politics and economics.
Mr. Minc is a graduate of the Ecole des Mines de Paris and of ENA. After serving as Inspecteur des Finances, Mr. Minc joined Compagnie de Saint-Gobain in 1979, as Chief Financial Officer. In 1986, Mr. Minc became Vice-Chairman of CIR International (Compagnie Industriali Riunite International) and General Manager of Cerus (Compagnies Européennes Réunies) which were the non-Italian affiliates of Benedetti Group. In 1991, Alain Minc founded his own consultancy firm, AM Conseil. He has been a Board Member of numerous companies and the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Le Monde, the leading French newspaper. He is Commandeur de la Légion d'Honneur.
Alain Minc has written more than 30 books since 1978, among them some have been best sellers, including Rapport sur l'informatisation de la société; La Machine égalitaire; La vengeance des Nations; le Nouveau Moyen âge; Rapport sur la France de l'an 2000; www.capitalisme.fr; Epître à nos nouveaux maîtres; Les Prophètes du bonheur : histoire personnelle de la pensée économique; Ce monde qui vient; Le Crépuscule des petits dieux; Une sorte de Diable, les vies de John M. Yves-André Istel graduated in economics from Princeton University and has had an extensive career in investment banking.
He is currently Senior Advisor to Rothschild Global Financial Advisory and a member of its Global Financial Advisory Compliance Committee. He is Deputy Chairman of the Board of Compagnie Financière Richemont SA, and a member of its Nominations Committee, its Compensation Committee and its Audit Committee. He is a director of: Tiedemann Wealth Board of Management, and a member of its Investment Committee; Analog Devices, Inc., and a member of its Audit Committee. He is Chair of HealthpointCapital Business Advisory Board, and a member of HealthpointCapital Board of Managers.
Previously, he was Managing Director and a member of the board of Lehman Brothers from 1977 to 1983; Co-Chairman of First Boston International from 1984 to 1988; Chairman of Wasserstein Perella & Co International from 1988 to 1992; and Vice Chairman of Rothschild Inc. from 1993 to 2002.
In addition, he is Chairman of: the Center for French Civilization and Culture, New York University; Fondation Saint-John Perse; and The European Institute. He is also a member of the board of: French-American Foundation; the Board of Overseers, New York University; and Action Against Hunger, USA. He is a member of: the Council on Foreign Relations; The Economic Club of New York; and The Bretton Woods Committee. He is a Trustee of the French American Cultural Exchange, and a member of its Management Committee.
Mr. Istel was awarded the “Commandeur de la Légion d’Honneur” and “Officier des Arts et de Lettres”.
