Clare O’Brien

Clare O’Brien has been a partner at Shearman & Sterling since January 1995. She first joined the firm in 1988, moving to the mergers and acquisitions practice group in 1989, where she has worked on a large variety of public and private transactions, including public company restructuring, joint ventures and large public transactions. Her recent experiences include representation of the Boston Scientific Corporation, the Thomson Corporation, Credit Suisse First Boston Inc., Groupe Danone, Quest Diagnostics Incorporated, Motorola, Inc., and VNU NV.

Prior to joining Shearman & Sterling, Ms. O’Brien worked with the law firm of Brady & Tarpey, P.C. where her practice included cross-border transactions, litigation, and domestic relations. She began her legal career at the Irish law firm of Eugene F. Collins & Son, and was admitted to the Irish Roll of Solicitors in 1985. She is a member of the Bar in New York and in Ireland.  She is also a member of the board of directors of the American Association of the International Commission of Jurists. 

Ms. O’Brien has a bachelor’s in legal science from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

Ms. O’Brien was selected to participate in the French-American Foundation’s Young Leaders program in 1995.
