Cara G. LaPointe

Captain Cara LaPointe, United States Navy, serves as the Chief of Staff to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy 

Captain Cara LaPointe, United States Navy, serves as the Chief of Staff to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Unmanned Systems where she helps lead the Navy’s efforts on unmanned and autonomous systems.  She has worked as a Surface Warfare Officer and as an Engineering Duty Officer.  Cara served as a White House Fellow in the Office of the First Lady where she worked on developing public-private partnerships in support of veterans and military families.  Cara is also passionate about volunteering and public service including extensive engagement in student outreach efforts promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Cara holds a PhD awarded jointly from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, MS and Nav Eng degrees from MIT, an MPhil from the University of Oxford, and a BS from the United States Naval Academy.
